“The Red Room” From Jane Eyre
When Jane was a child, she was orphaned and left in the hands of her cruel Aunt Reed. Instead of treating her as one of her own children, Mrs. Reed was neglectful and abusive. When young Jane was “bad” she would lock her in “The Red Room”. The Red Room was a dark and eerie place, where Jane often saw the ghost of her deceased Uncle. After escaping the guardianship of her aunt, Jane blossoms into a self-assured, brilliant woman. Despite her adversity, and perhaps because of it, Jane Eyre became one of the most formidable heroines in literature.
